Rope for Hope...

I sent this letter out to my friends the other day...something new I'm involved in that is very important to me.

My friend,

As you know, I am on the El Paso Symphony Board of Directors…well, guess what?! I’m also on the El Paso Youth Symphony Board of Directors! We have 14 promising young musicians whose families are experiencing severe financial stress. Most of these students come from single parent homes with incomes of less than $20,000 per year. These parents are struggling to keep their kids in this program. There is so much I didn’t know about the Youth Symphony…I had no idea that college music departments recruit students directly out of this Youth Orchestra. So, if a student sticks with the program they have a great chance of getting a full scholarship to college. I am writing to you today because I am passionate about the good work of the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestras. The Youth Orchestras make a difference for the students because they foster their musical aspirations and enhance their educational opportunities. I am asking you to extend a ROPE FOR HOPE to these 14 worthy students.

Here is some information from the Symphony office…
“The El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestras are making a difference in the lives of these children and as a result, we are cultivating the next generation of Symphony members and performing arts supporters. Through their participation in the Youth Orchestras, these El Paso students gain encouragement to further their studies and complete a college education. Did you know that, the El Paso Youth Orchestras have:

60 members in elementary school, 80 members in middle school and 75 members in high school;
last year, 14 Youth Orchestra members were awarded college scholarships in multiple disciplines;
the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestras has been nationally recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, and has only been in existence for 3 years”.

A donation for $35 to $1200 will make a huge difference in a child’s life. It costs $1000 to $1500 to cover the cost of one student. I am asking for a $35 donation or more to help with our ROPE FOR HOPE. Please make a contribution. You can mail a check to the EPSO office or give them a call to charge a contribution to a credit card.

A ROPE FOR HOPE….keeps the music alive in the hearts of our youth.

I know times are tough for everyone. And I know that we all receive solicitations for "good causes" (Nigerian royalty, etc.) on a regular basis. I don't have a lot of El Paso blog readers...but, if your interested...here is a link where you can donate a little bit to help a student stay in this program.

Now, I'm off to make myself presentable. I'm going to my first Youth Symphony performance today!

I tried to donate thrice, but it didn't quite take. Not sure why. Hmmm...will try again.
