Don't you want to go here?! Look at the tilework, the woodwork on the door...leading to a bedroom filled with Moorish intrigue! A tiny moan escaped my throat when I opened the mailbox this morning...and this image was looking back at me.

Marrakech's 1920's La Mamounia has been renovated...and I want to go. Closed for three years, the hotel glows again thanks to Jacques Garcia, known for gems like Paris’s Hôtel Costes. The maximalist designer (My Kind Of Designer!!) chose a garnet tone as the Marrakesh palace’s signature color. Check out the website...the music is sultry! The riads are amazing...the signature suites are incredible...I don't think I could pick a favorite.
Suite al Mamoun is spectacular...oh, I NEED to go here...though I may never return!

It snowed a couple of days before the big day...

Dirty Girl...she's exhausted from humping everyone...

My Mother gave me these bungee cord thingies for food...the food loop...awesome!

Endive with Gorgonzola and walnut vinaigrette, citrus butter green beans, potatoes Au gratin with leeks and oyster mushrooms (my secret weapon) tenderloin with Bearnaise (Ina's recipe)...flan for dessert.

My neighbors wanted me to duplicate a menu I had made a couple of years ago. They bought all the groceries (how cool is that?!) and I showed them how to make the meal. With two generous sous chefs and one very sexy dish washer (I let him feel me up whenever he wanted!) I made this meal in record time!

Tile work at the Farmer's Market in Las Cruces, NM...probably my favorite color combinations.

I blush, I burn, I shudder, while I pen the damnable atrocity...The Black Cat

Plunder...

This vanity set is so beautiful. I've found all kinds of interesting items at Shop Curious...my Mother bought The Main Man two pair of cuff links from Shop Curious for Christmas. He knows he's getting cuff links, but he has no idea what they look like. He also knows that I'm getting him a pair of velvet slippers...and not from Stubbs and Wootton. These are coming from Shipton & Heneage...they are very ROAR-worthy, but unfortunatley, I received an email that they will be late. Hopefully he will get them for our New Year's Eve shindig...we will see.

I also know what The Main Man has gotten me for Christmas...this happens every year. He shops, gets excited and then tells me what he's purchased. Usually the present is wrapped and I force him to let me wait for Christmas day to open it...if he had his way, I would rip it open right that second and then he would race around Christmas Eve and try to find me something else so I wouldn't be bereft of gifts on the big day! A friend also let the cat out of Santa's bag...she saw The Main Man shopping and then asked me later if I liked the gold bag, scarf and jacket...Yes, gold bag, scarf and jacket...she really likes the gold bag....ta dum dum...She was mortified when she realized these were my Christmas gifts, but, of course, he had already told me about the purchases as soon as his size 14 feet hit our threshold.

Welcome Back...

So...I bitch and moan about my broken toe that is now pointing in the wrong fucking direction...in comparison, my Dad broke his femur 5 weeks ago. A spiral fracture. He was in the hospital for 1 1/2 weeks...then a rehab facility for a week, then out patient for 3 days a week, used a wheelchair, then a walker, then 2 crutches, then 1 crutch. He is 72 years old. Now he has full range of motion. The man bought a couple of therapeutic machines for the house...and did extra rehab at home.

5 Weeks! He drove himself to work yesterday...and this is what he found.

I'm a pussy...he is NOT. He raised me from the age of 13 on...the difficult years! He adopted me when I was in my 20's...I adore him. My parent's are coming to visit us for New Year's Eve. I'm so happy.

Found at Nothing Elegant...and their is more!

Creamed...

I love Stouffer's Creamed Spinach...It's easy and good, but none of the grocery stores carry it here...I found this recipe and now I need Stouffer's no more! Ha! The only thing I changed...instead of whipping cream, I used Mexican Crema... It's more mild and creamy than American sour cream. I promise...if you make this...you WILL get laid!

Ingredients

  1. 6 tablespoons butter, divided
  2. 1 (8-ounce) package sliced mushrooms
  3. 1 yellow bell pepper, chopped
  4. 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  5. 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  6. 1-1/2 cups milk
  7. 1-1/2 cups heavy whipping cream
  8. 1 teaspoon sugar
  9. 1 teaspoon salt
  10. 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  11. 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  12. 2 teaspoons hot pepper sauce
  13. 2 (1-pound) packages chopped frozen spinach, thawed and drained
  14. 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  15. Garnish: additional grated
  16. Parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. In a large skillet, melt 4 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Add mushrooms, bell pepper, and garlic; cook for 5 to 6 minutes, or until tender. Remove vegetables to a bowl.
  2. In the same skillet, melt remaining 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Add flour, stirring constantly for 1 minute. Gradually add milk, whisking until smooth. Add cream, sugar, salt, nutmeg, pepper, and hot pepper sauce, whisking until smooth.
  3. Add spinach; cook for 15 minutes, or until tender, stirring occasionally.
  4. Add mushroom mixture and cheese; cook for 1 minute, stirring until cheese is melted.
  5. Garnish with additional cheese, if desired.
