Disaster!

Posting has been a little sparse because...I'm finally in the process of The Closet Makeover. And it totally sucks! My office is covered in clothes, my dining room is covered in clothes...I don't know where anything is. I've been wearing the same pair of jeans for the last two days. The wood has been installed, the painter is here yesterday and today, then Tuesday the wallpaper and then the light fixtures. I also need to have The Main Man's Vargas selections framed for his closet. This whole idea started months ago...here.

There have been several changes...I'm not doing the Fortuny light fixtures. I just couldn't reason spending that much. I'm using two lotus light fixtures from Midnight Farm that I originally found on one of the blogs on my blog roll...I can't remember whose! I'm getting old, don't judge! The Main Man found pictures that he liked better in two other books that we have...

Alberto Vargas and The Jimmy Choo shoes and nudes book I won in a giveaway.

I found two great hand woven wool rugs from Rue La La...which should arrive any day now. I'll be happy when the dust clears...it's been a good way to weed out stuff that I haven't worn in years...and I finally threw away my first ever pair of Manolo's that looked like they had been thrown from the roof of the Empire State Building. I can't count the number of times I had them re~soled. I bought them when I started my business in 1998...right after graduating from design school.

I was much more conservative back then...black cigarette pants and crisp white shirts were my uniform...The Main Man changed all that! Now, I'm a frigging peacock!

I hope your weekend has gone well. It's been a busy week...tonight...staying home and watching the Grammy's.

Hayv Kahraman

I originally learned about Hayv Kahraman at one of my fave blogs...Nothing Elegant...which is misleading, because it's everything elegant.

Learn more here and here. Her work has an Erte' quality to me.

Slow Food January 2010

Place Carding...Issa Dress

Terrible picture, unfortunately...Chef Mikel had just told us about the menu and everything to look forward to...in Spanish. Half of the crowd understood...half, including me, didn't. So...Chef Diego translated Mikel's 8 minute explanation with..."Your really gonna like it!"

A Pensive amiga who has learned how to smize! with her handsome man.

If I would stop cramming my Shrek Toe into heels it might heal a little better, dontcha think?!

The food was spectacular...if you are ever in Mexico City...you must visit Chef Mikel at his restaurant Biko. For a recap of the menu and more about Chef Mikel, go here. I feel so fortunate that he traveled all this way for our Slow Food dinner last night. I wish I had more photos of the food, but we drank A LOT of wine, and good intentions tend to go the way of the empty bottles.

Speaking of bottles, the wines are unfiltered...so they were decanted TWICE and then poured back into the bottle. This must have taken YEARS! 80 people...5 courses...just imagine the number of bottles!

2nd Course...Fruited Foie Gras...AMAZING...so lush and decadent...The little round ball in the middle was to be eaten in one bite. It exploded in your mouth with a rush of pure grape essence.

I so wish I had a picture of the braised short rib...it was like eating beefy silk...it just fell apart and melted in your mouth. The "edible clay" was smeared dramatically on the bottom of the plate. It added an earthy, meaty, robust flavor to the rib. Really cool!

Coconut Soup with Passion Fruit Ravioli...fabulous and the dessert wine...Moscatel Casta Diva was THE DIVA of the evening. It tasted like honeyed pears. There was a lot of moaning and groaning going on around my table. Each course was just amazing. I wish I could do it all over again!
