The Week and Road Tripping...

This recipe did not work...my beautiful rib roast turned into charcoal. Trust your instincts! I had a bad feeling about this recipe.

On our way to Ruidoso, NM for the night...

We always stay at The Escape Resort at Ruidoso...5 wonderful casitas.

And, it's a lot less expensive than what you would imagine.

One dress purchased at J. Roberts to wear at Polo for Aids on Saturday...

...three wine tastings, one cheese tasting and lots of cheese purchased, dinner at
Willmon's Prime Grill, wine on the patio, romp in the massive tub with disco lights, breakfast the next morning at The Log Cabin, then drive home to see the UTEP game.

Then up at 6am to take Dolce to the vet for a teeth cleaning...describing her breath as horrendous just doesn't do it justice.

Eyebrows Only...

"[T]he conductor must not only make his orchestra play, he must make them want to play. He must exalt them. Lift them. Start their adrenaline pouring. Either by pleading or demanding or raging — it doesn't matter. It is not so much imposing his will on them like a dictator. It is more like projecting his feelings around them...It doesn't really matter how well you move with your hands. It should be in your face, it should be in your expression."

Birthday Blues...

Saturday, September 17, 2011

My husband's birthday was the other day. He vehemently hates celebrating it. Over the past 16 years, I've tried to winnow down the celebration, but still fulfill MY need to celebrate the day of his birth. We've gone from Surprise Parties with 100 people (really bad idea), to dinner at favorite restaurants with friends and family, little getaways, to a bowling party (not such a good idea when the celebrant is ruthlessly competitive), to a quiet dinner cooked by a friend for just the two of us. I may have finally come up with a decent compromise. Dinner included all of his favorites...oysters on the half-shell, Oysters Rockefeller, shrimp spring rolls, Lobster Thermidor and grilled steaks....it was a feast for two. No cake, no candles, no singing...just gluttony.

Thank you, Victor.

Zuchinni Vichyssoise...Ina Garten's recipe here.

The only thing I changed...I peeled the potatoes. Just seemed more civilized. I also made my own chive oil. Pretty good on presentation, right!?!
