Fabulous Blueberry Pie...

A friend of mine made this recipe the other day...I wish I had taken a picture of it...not only is it beautiful, but it tastes tart and luscious!

The image above came from here.

Blueberry Goat Cheese Pie

Recipe courtesy Moira Sommers, Co-Owner/Chef of 3 Sisters Cafe in Indianapolis, IN

Ingredients

Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cups cold butter
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Pinch salt
  • Cold water

Filling:

Topping:

  • 1 cup sliced almonds
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup melted butter

Directions

For the crust:

Combine the flour, butter, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Work with your fingers

gathering and crumbling until you have a crumbly mixture, about the size of peas.

In small amounts, slowly add cold water, gently incorporating by hand. As soon as the dough comes together in a ball, wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.

For the filling: Mix the goat cheese, heavy cream, egg, sugar, flour, salt and basil together in a bowl. Add the blueberries and mix to desired texture.

For the topping: Mix the almonds, sugar and butter in bowl, set aside.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Roll out the dough and place in a 10-inch pie pan. Pour the filling into the crust and sprinkle the topping over the top. Bake 25 minutes, rotating the pie halfway through.

NYC...

Thursday, November 17, 2011

Lesson learned...I only brought 5" platforms....stupid, stupid, stupid. Too bad we didn't pack a sedan chair so that I could be carted around in style...instead of hobbling my way around town desperately clutching at any man that would let me.

Washington Square Hotel...great boutique hotel, great location near NYU. Minetta Tavern and Babbo walking steps away.

North Square...our favorite restaurant on this trip. The food was excellent and it was 4 feet from the entrance to the hotel...see shoe packing problem above. Another reason, I'm a big scaredy cat and should not be reading the New York Post...read article here.
Saks Fifth Avenue...the NYC Icon...at least in my eyes. Men's Department...ask for Kamal.

Saks Fifth Avenue 10022 Shoe Dept...ask for Nick

Book of Mormon...Hilarious

Egg Salad and Chopped Liver combo...the husband wouldn't watch me eat it...it was delicious!

Go See This! It's beautiful...

New Galleries for the Art of the Arab Lands, Turkey, Iran, Central Asia, and Later South Asia

From High~Brow to Low~Brow

Museum of Sex...serves cocktails as well as other various and a~sundry things. Filled with giggling 19 year old Australian tourist girls. I had no idea sex dolls were so tall! That's the husband at the bar getting a Canton and Champagne Cocktail for me. I needed it desperately. We were trapped in the middle of the Veteran's Day Parade and I was knocked to the ground by the patriotic/un~chivalrous crowd, completely unconcerned with my 6" platform darling booties. My feelings were hurt.

The store had some interesting items. Mike Sullivan's Robot sexcapade was fascinating.

Then...Best Night Evah! The reason we all traveled to NY ...to celebrate a friend's birthday.

Sammy's Roumanian...it was like a yiddish frat party gone wild. Vodka, more chopped liver, vodka, music, dancing, vodka, illicit making out with my husband, more vodka...sweaty search for cab back to hotel.

Vodka Delivery Man

Before the debauchery...a great cocktail party, with Jose', from Senegal, playing guitar.

Final Day, Escalators to Dim Sum Nirvana at Jing Fong

Read a reveiw here.

Then I just pretended we were home on a Sunday...the husband brought two huge slices of pizza to the room from a street vendor, 4 newspapers for me...and football all day...then the long, long trek to North Square for a another wonderful dinner with our cute Serbian waiter who told me I smelled good.

Now, back in EP with the Holidays knocking at our doors. Where the hell does time go?
