Dia De La Reyes...

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

I still have a lot of parties, but I've been kind of lax in taking pictures.  So...I thought I'd share this shindig.

From Here  "Epiphany, which is called Dia de los Reyes (Three Kings Day) portrays the arrival in Bethlehem of the Wise Men carying gifts for the baby Jesus.  Children all over Mexico, anxiously await waking up January 6th to find toys and gifts.
A special treat served on this day is the Rosca de Reyes (a crown-shaped sweet bread decorated with jewel-like candied fruits)  Tiny plastic figures of babies are hidden in the dough before baking.  There is much excitement as each partaker cuts his or her own slice, for whoever gets a piece containing a baby is obligated to host another party on or before Candlemas, February 2, when Mexico’s holiday season finally comes to an end."

The Cocktail...

El Diablo de la Puebla from Saveur

In this refinement of a margarita is served by bartender Dave Power at The Feral Pig in Lihue, Kauai. The tequila is tightly tempered with a relatively small amount of tart fruit as it blossoms upon the sweetness of crème de cassis.

INGREDIENTS

2 oz. blanco tequila
⅜ oz. ginger syrup
¼ oz. crème de cassis
½ oz. fresh lime juice

INSTRUCTIONS

Combine tequila, ginger syrup, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until chilled and strain into a glass. Tilt glass and gently pour cassis for a layered effect.

The Horrendously Ugly cake with a Naked Baby hidden in it...sounds just awful, doesn't it?!?

It tasted better than it looked...Bowie Bakery, here in El Paso

My boyfriend

My other boyfriend

The man who keeps me well fed...Chef Victor Rodriguez

Whoever had the black dot on the bottom of their dinner plate got the Party Favor...a non gender specific party favor.  Incidentally, he found the naked baby too!  Barbie and her Naked Baby Jesus!

If I remember correctly, some sort of Occupy The Rug Protest was going on because I didn't have a dinner table set up.  Looks like a Magic Carpet ride.

So far, Poshmark has been most lucrative with my friends buying my baubles.

The night is over...looking forward to Feb 2.
